Moldex3D comprises two product lines. One line is based upon the so-called 2,5D, or Shell, technology. This technique is known for it's fast and stable calculations. The method has successfully been used for the past 20 years. The limitation of this technology is, that it can only be used on "Shell-like" parts where the surface area of the part is significantly bigger than it's volume .
The other product line uses full 3D, or Solid, technology and enables all parts to be analysed accurately regardless of geometry. Another advantage with the Solid 3D calculation, is that existing 3D CAD geometry can easily be imported as input for the calculation. Solid analysis typically involves a a longer calculation time.
